Lakra. They collected all the 100, 500 and 1,000-rupee notes from the locker room. They locked the customers and bank employees and rushed out.
The city police reacted swiftly after the arrest of a suspect, whose cell phone revealed the whereabouts of the robbers. The police zeroed in a government flat behind the residence of BJP MLA Chandreshwar Prasad Singh near the district police headquarters where the robbers had taken shelter, the criminals opened fire when they faced police and hurled bombs. The shootout left three robbers dead, while one who sustained injuries, is being treated in the hospital. Two of the criminals fled.
The house is booked in the name of a sales tax officer, currently posted in Dumka, and sources claim that one of the robbers was the officer’s brother.
